In short: myYam has no account with us, no ads and no tracking. It talks to your own Home Assistant hub, and what it knows about your house stays between your devices and your hub.
What we collect
Nothing. myYam has no servers of its own that receive your data, and the app contains no analytics, advertising or tracking code. We can't see your house, your devices or how you use the app.
Your Home Assistant hub
Everything myYam shows comes from your own Home Assistant hub, and the controls you use are sent straight to it: over your home Wi-Fi, or, when you're out, through the Home Assistant Cloud link you set up yourself. Home Assistant and Home Assistant Cloud (from Nabu Casa) have their own privacy policies.
When you sign in with Home Assistant, you type your username and password into your hub's own sign-in page, not into myYam. myYam keeps only the sign-in it is given, in your device's Keychain. Your hub may look at a small page on GitHub that identifies the app (zambocious.github.io/myYam); nothing about you is sent there.
On your device
- Settings and layout (your look, card order, which cards show) are stored on the device.
- Widgets read a summary of the house that myYam saves on the device for them.
- Card background photos you choose stay on the device.
Things you share with your household
The picture you choose for Who's home is saved on your Home Assistant hub, so everyone in your house who uses myYam can see it. It is not shared with anyone else, and you can remove it at any time.
Who's home, and the map shown when you tap someone who is out, come from the Home Assistant app on each person's phone and are kept by your hub, not by myYam.
Permissions the app asks for
| Permission | What it's for |
|---|---|
| Local network | Finding and talking to your hub at home. |
| Calendars and Reminders | Showing your events and reminders on Home, and ticking reminders off. They are read on your device and not sent anywhere. |
| Location (when in use) | Only if you choose "My location" for the weather. |
| Camera | Taking a photo for your picture or a card background. |
| Face ID | Confirming it's you before unlocking a door, opening the garage or turning off the alarm. Face ID is checked by your device; myYam never sees it, and never keeps door or alarm PINs. |
Apple services
- Apple Weather provides forecasts for the place you choose (home, where you are, or a town). Apple's privacy policy applies.
- Siri requests are handled by Apple and then by myYam on your device, which sends the command to your hub.
- Sign in with Apple, if you connect your Apple Account in About, gives the app an identifier that stays on your device. You can disconnect it in the app or in the Settings app.
- Crash reports: if you choose to share analytics with app developers in your device's settings, Apple may give us anonymous crash reports. You can turn this off in the Settings app › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements.
News
myYam fetches the headlines you choose straight from each publisher's public news feed. Tapping a headline opens the publisher's own app or website, where their privacy policy applies.
This website
This site uses no cookies, analytics or scripts. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (such as IP addresses and pages requested) for security and running the service.
Children
myYam is a household app and doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
