The short version: myYam is free and still being built. Use it sensibly, keep your hub and devices secure, and don't rely on it for anything where a mistake could hurt someone.
1. Who we are and what these terms cover
myYam is an app for iPhone and iPad made by Paul Bedford ("we", "us"). These terms cover the myYam app and this website. By installing or using myYam, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.
2. A new app, still being built
myYam is new and still being developed: features may change, stop working or be removed, and the app may have bugs. Apple's terms for apps on your device also apply. We may change or stop offering myYam at any time.
myYam is free. We don't sell anything in the app.
3. Your hub, your devices, your accounts
myYam is a front end for your own Home Assistant hub. You are responsible for:
- setting up and running your hub, and keeping it and its software up to date and secure;
- the devices connected to it, and who in your household can use them;
- your Home Assistant username and password, and any access tokens: keep them to yourself;
- your accounts with other services, such as Home Assistant Cloud (Nabu Casa), Philips Hue, Ring, Bosch Home Connect, LG or Apple. Their own terms and prices apply, and we aren't responsible for them.
4. Safety first
Don't rely on myYam for safety or security. Locks, alarms, cameras, garage doors, heating and appliances can be controlled through myYam, but the app, your hub, your network or another company's service can fail or be slow. Check for yourself that a door is locked or an appliance is off when it matters, and never use myYam in place of smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms, a monitored alarm service or the emergency services.
Only control things you're allowed to, and think about the people in the house before switching things remotely, such as turning off lights or heating, or opening a door.
5. Using myYam properly
Please don't use myYam to break the law, to watch or track anyone without their agreement, or to get into a hub or devices that aren't yours. Don't try to copy, take apart or misuse the app, or get round its security.
Who's home shows where members of your household are, from the Home Assistant app on their own phones. Make sure everyone in your household knows and agrees to this before you set it up.
6. Your content
Pictures you choose for yourself or for card backgrounds are yours. Your picture is saved on your own hub so your household can see it; card backgrounds stay on your device. Only use pictures you have the right to use.
7. Our content
The app, its design, the looks and their artwork, and this website belong to us, apart from third-party material used under its licence (such as fonts under the SIL Open Font License, and Microsoft's Fluent Emoji under the MIT licence). You may use the app for your own household; you may not copy or share it in other ways.
Weather comes from Apple Weather, and news headlines from the publishers you choose; they belong to their owners.
8. No guarantees
myYam is provided "as is", as a free app. As far as the law allows, we make no promises that it will always work, be free of mistakes, keep working with your hub or devices, or suit what you need it for.
9. Our responsibility to you
As far as the law allows, we aren't responsible for any loss or damage that comes from using, or not being able to use, myYam, including anything that happens because a device was or wasn't switched, locked, opened or closed. Nothing in these terms limits any responsibility that the law doesn't allow us to limit, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
10. Privacy
How myYam handles information is explained in the privacy policy.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as myYam changes. The new version will be posted here with a new date. If you keep using myYam after a change, you accept the new terms.
